Between Shades of Gray is a novel written by Ruta Sepetys. It describes the experiences of a Lithuanian girl and and her family who were sent to a labour camp by the Soviet Union's secret police during the early years of WW2. It is a vivid tale on the themes of the fragility of life, death, resilience and most all, of strength and hope during times of despair. I like this book because not only it has a tense, addicting plot but it also delves into the flaws and beauty of human nature, it also relates to history. The reader can enjoy the fun of reading while learning about the horrors of World War 2 and why such terrible things should not be repeated again; to learn from our precious past.

The Ascendance Trilogy by Jennifer A. Nielsen is a middle school fantasy book narrated by an orphan boy Sage who was chosen to pretend to be the lost prince of his country - a long with three other boys. He must compete against them for a the place of the heir apparent, or else he would certainly be killed. I love the twists and turns in the book, and though Sage seems like just a sarcastic, poor street boy at first, he hides a secret past connected with the royal family. I not only love seeing the character development of Sage, but also the relationship between the reader and him, as he begins to trust us with his deepest secrets.

Eragon, book one of the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini, is an intricately woven fantasy tale that combines the best of adventure, magic and destiny into a thrilling journey; with mystical creatures such as winged dragons, elves that dance between the trees and dwarves that carve a life amongst the cold mountains. Paolini uses vivid language to create a world the reader can truly submerge into within the pages. Following Eragon and his fellow friends against their crusade against evil is an unforgettable experience that will keep you eagerly flipping the pages!

Savvy by Ingrid Law is a story about a girl born into a magical family going on a road trip in hope of saving her father. I recommend this book because I love how the characters develop and grow, and we can really see the love Mibs have for her family. I admire her courage and love. Though it is very short it is still very action packed. It's a very sweet book. There is also a sequel titled 'Scrumble' following the story of a family relation of Mibs. This is a story that everyone can enjoy and I'm sure everyone would love the character. Mibs reminds us that no matter what, don't give up on the ones you love.

Uh...hi, so I'd like to share a book. I'm sure everyone knows about it...it's Wonder by RJ Palacio. I'm going to keep this simple because the overall context of the book is simple- it's about a boy who was discriminated because he was born with down syndrome. You may think it's boring, but it's a plot that links to all of us, because all of us tend to treat people with special needs differently. You may not know it, but you'll tend to do a double take or stare or even point at them, even just out of curiosity. Basically, we react differently around them, and this is a story of what they think of our actions. Perfectly suitable for all ages. Hope you'll give it a shot. *Enthusiastic Clapping*

Navigating Early, by Clare Vanderpool, is a book set at the end of WW2. Jack Baker, along with his strange friend Early Auden, embarked on a journey to find the Great Appalachian Bear and to save Pi (As Early could tell a story based on the numbers of pi, Pi is the main character of the story) I recommend this book because it is interesting to see how their journey was related to the story of Pi. Besides, you can learn some extra facts about nature while reading this book!

The History Keepers: The Storm Begins by Damian Dibben, revolves around a boy named Jake Djones. Jake loses his parents in time and set off with his friends into history in search for his parents, and o stop and to stop evil from raising. Sabriel is the first book of the Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix. In this enchanting novel you'll be enraptured in a world where a border can separate the modern day world from a land of dark and ancient magic, brimming full with mysteries where Death is a realm that can be walked in. I find this novel highly enjoyable as Nix's unusual imagination has woven a kingdom full of thrilling wonders with an adventure that's to DIE for!

The Graceling trilogy by Kirsten Cashore is about a fantasy land where some people are born with eyes of different color and with special abilities, such as our protagonist Katsa, who is very skilled in combat. Her uncle the king uses her powers to strengthen his dictatorship in the kingdom and punish all who defies him severly. I like this book because we can follow Katsa on a journey to discover more about herself, and how she is more than her skill in fighting. With the help of a prince and a young princess, she was able to untangle a mysterious kidnapping and unveil one of the evil kings of the kingdoms. It's very exciting and it is an intricately designed world. In addition, the two latter books in the trilogy, Fire and Bitterblue, ties the series together beautifully. I love how that, despite the glamorous palaces and pretty dresses, despite the thrilling adventures and fatal dangers the characters face, I can still relate to the characters. Their bravery, friendship and love places an important part in the stories and it is easy to see similarities between it and our lives.

One book I really like is a comic based on a real event. Its' title is Smile. It is about a girl called Raina (the author of the book herself) and her little sister Amara. Amara is a grumpy little girl, but very artistic and loves animals. Raina is trying to survive a road trip from San Francesco to Colorado to visit her relatives with her mother , her little brother Will who has an unfortunate ability to annoy the whole family, and Amara, the bitter one. But it turns out to be pretty disastrous, since there are bugs everywhere, Raina's portable music device kept running out of battery (which keeps her in a very grumpy mood), there are rainstorms, tents to be pitched, dead animals everywhere, nothing to eat but mashed potatoes and cup noodles, moms driving into rush hour traffic, and when they finally got to their cousins' home Raina got left out by everyone. On the trip back things only got worse. Amara never ran out of ways to bug Raina, their car broke down two hours away from the nearest village. Their mother had to go find someone to pick her and Will up to the nearest supply shop in the middle of the desert. While mom is away, Raina and Amara noticed the main reason their dad is not coming with them - Dad and Mom are arguing! Just when the sisters realized how much they needed each other, a snake popped up from under a seat cushion! What does the snake have to do with Amara? Can Raina cope with her " Shrew " sister? Don't miss this book by Raina Telgemeier!
